Kilimanjaro

I know it has been a long time since I have been on here – and I apologise! But I’m back and I have some exciting news but also a big request.

The last time I left Europe was 15 years ago when I was a fearless 20 yr old student and I spent several weeks in the rainforest of Peru working with a Community Health programme in remote villages.

Now 15 years on, one marriage, two kids, several jobs and far too many wrinkles – I am 35 and it’s time to leave Europe again and take on another challenge. So this coming February (2014) I will be taking part in a Kilimanjaro challenge to raise money for the child sponsorship charity - Compassion.

I’ll spend one day in Kenya seeing Compassion’s work on the ground and getting to know the students whose lives we’ll (and you’ll) be impacting. I will then travel to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania to begin the Challenge itself. The trek up the mountain is completed over 6 days trekking to the famous 5,895m summit. The challenges on the mountain include the obvious physical exertion , facing extremes of temperature (and blisters). But most dangerous is the very real possibility of altitude sickness – thankfully we’ll have a great team to look after us and make sure we stay as safe as possible.

Compassion is a charity very close to my heart. As a family we have a sponsor child in Ghana and we love having a glimpse into his life and being able to play a part in giving him a better future through education, food, healthcare and so on.

The Kilimanjaro trip aims specifically to raise money to support 6 exceptionally gifted students that have come through the Compassion programme to go through higher education. You can read more about them here.

I’m excited and nervous but most of all I feel so privileged to be able to be a part of this - but I need your help! I would be so grateful if you could sponsor me to complete this challenge. I need to raise a minimum of £4400 to cover the costs of the trip but more importantly to raise money for the amazing work of Compassion.

I would be so grateful if you would support me by sponsoring me. It means a lot to me but it means so much more to the students who will benefit.

I’ll be back here with updates and training progress soon!
